Yoga Outreach has been doing the yoga service thing since before it was cool. This year, their 14th annual (!) fundraiser weekend retreat will be held on May 25 – 27 at a “peaceful wooded setting on the banks of the Cheakamus River,” just outside of Vancouver, BC. The theme of the retreat is rEvolution, which is appropriate for the nature of the revolutionary work that Yoga Outreach does to support access to yoga for everyone.
For the past 15 years, Yoga Outreach has been providing yoga classes in unconventional settings to underserved people in the Vancouver area. With classes in more than 20 facilities, they reach as many as 600 students each year. But their goal is to reach 1200 students and 40 facilities, and they want to expand their programs for healthcare and social service settings – as well as recovery facilities and correctional institutions – through the whole province.
For more information and to register for the retreat, see Yoga Outreach’s website.
