MISTY 2011: neil pearson & the wisdom of pain

In anticipation of the first Montreal International Symposium on Therapeutic Yoga (MISTY 2011) on October 29 & 30, I’ll be presenting a series of conversations with symposium faculty. I had a Skype conversation with Neil Pearson, a yoga therapist, physiotherapist and pain management educator based in Penticton, BC.

Most of us spend our lives avoiding pain as much as possible, but Neil Pearson has dedicated his life to understanding pain and how yoga therapy can provide relief.  We talked about the healing power of group yoga therapy classes, the effects of chronic pain on the brain and his hopes for therapeutic yoga. I’m fascinated by Neil’s fascination with pain, and inspired by his continuous work to educate health care providers and regular folks about the nature of pain.

Check out Neil’s sessions at MISTY 2011 on Sunday, Oct 30 at 8:30 am – 12:30 pm for Yoga for Chronic Pain and  at 4:00 – 6:00 pm for When Asana Hurts.
