It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and the most stressful. The holidays bring family, social and financial demands on our time and energy. But there are ways to cope with the pressure, so you can put your feet up and enjoy yourself.
Judith Hanson Lasater is a renowned yoga teacher with a thriving career, a busy travel schedule and a family. In this interview, the author of Relax and Renew: Restful Yoga for Stressful Times (Rodmell Press), shares some tips and strategies for reducing stress during the holidays.
As she notes, we tend to confuse busy-ness with meaning, and there’s no better time to do this than when we’re hosting family, preparing huge meals and fulfilling social obligations. However, if we negotiate our expectations and practice simple self-care practices, we become less busy and can instead focus on meaningful experiences.
Lasater’s suggestions are rooted in Nonviolent Communication techniques and yoga, and they’re simple enough to practice at even the biggest family gatherings. Make a cup of tea, sit back and listen to her practical survival tips in the IAYB interview below.
