The fantastic peeps at online radio show Where Is My Guru have graciously offered to do a podcast interview series focused on 21st Century Yoga: Culture, Politics & Practice. The series kicked off with a live radio appearance by co-editors Carol Horton and myself, in which we contextualized the book and explained our intentions.
Check out our interview here (in which we sound appropriately charming, smart and yogic, all at once!):
First up in the WIMG series is my conversation with contributor Michael Stone. In his essay, “Our True Nature is Our Imagination: Yoga and Non-violence at the Edge of the World,” he looks at yoga, social action and the Occupy movement. Our conversation was an opportunity to go deeper into these themes, and also touch on the state of conversation in the North American yoga community.
And this is only the beginning! The series continues throughout the rest of the month, with a new podcast episode being posted each week. Coming up:
Oct 17 – Matthew Remski & Angela Jamison on modern yoga studio culture
Oct 24 – Melanie Klein & Frank Jude Boccio on “the body beautiful” and body image
Oct 31 – Chelsea Roff & Tommy Rosen on yoga and addiction recovery
Get yourself a copy of the book and listen in! If you want to participate in the discussion, take part in the online book club on elephant journal where excerpts from the book will be posted on a regular basis.
